About us

Since 1983 Idoia Seijo and Jonan Basterretxea work in their workshop in Hondarribia, devoting their handmade skills to create a great number of theater characters

Education

1979–1981
Municiple School of Ceramics Jacinto de Alcantara in Madrid.
1982–1983
Worked as assistants on the building of the walls of the Basílica de Aranzazu (500m2) with the artist Nestor Basterretxea.
1983
Course on making string pippets and designing stage scenery with the Fanfarre Group in Barcelona.
Different training and courses in many workshops investiganing new materials such as,polyester,fibreglass,resins,sintetic pastes,wood,stone,ceramic,etc.
1989
Opened a shop in Hondarribia where classes are given of the different technique of making puppets.
1993
Course with the Green Gingen Microheater Group on the making of dolls using latex in Barcelona.
2004
Received the title of Masters of craftsmanship from the Diputation of Gipuzkoa.

Selected to exhibit our works in Salzbomel (Holanda).

Selected by the Basque Government to represent the Artisans of the Basque Country in Barcelona and Sevilla.
Our puppets are in private collections all over the world and also in the Museo de Autómatas de La Rrochelle in France and in the Jorge Oteiza Foundation in Alzuza (Navarra).

Work

1983
Made a giant puppet for the theatre group Zintzilik for the play titled “El Escorial” which was directed by Yokin Cuet.
1990
Worked in collaborations with U.N.I.M.A..(Asociacion Intrenacional de Marionetistas)in the making of a giant dove for peace for the concentration in Sevilla that the U.N.I.M.A.S. from all over the world attended.
1992, 1994, 2000–2002
Worked with the theatre group Panta Rhei in Vitoria.Making a wide range of articles,masks,giants puppets,costumes etc.for different plays and shows.
2003–2005
Worked with tha theatre group Gorringo SL in Asteasu.Making costumes,atrezzo,scenes for different plays and shows.
1995, 2001-2005
Worked with the theatre group Kixka in Eibar.Making Atrezzo,stage scenes,making characters using various techniques.
2002
Designing and making a mascot for the concentration of the Music Schools in the Basque Country which as held in Hondarribia.
2006
Cuenta Cuentos Maite in Bera de Bidasoa.Made a pippet-doll which was used as basis for story telling.
2007
The making of 4 hand puppet Romeo, Julieta, Mago, Bruno Payaso.
The design and making of two dolls for the Basque Television (E.T.V).
Working with didactic materials for schools.

Works with Atrezzo,decoration,giant puppets,”cabezudos”(town festival figures with enormous heads)”toros de fuego”(A bulls head in worn and lets off fireworks),games for street festivals for different town councils in the Basque Country.
